Do you help treat terminal or chronic illness?
Reiki can be used as a complementary therapy to treat different kinds of pain, including chronic pain. Reiki is never, ever meant to take place in whatever regime you have set up with your care providers, but to work in conjunction with them to amplify your healing process. Reiki is not a replacement for any ongoing treatments for terminal and/or chronic illness. The limbic system is where emotions are processed, and that creates a strong connection between pain and emotions. Reiki can’t be used to change what is basically an anatomical problem. The mind is an incredible thing and is capable of fixing a lot of our problems if focused appropriately. Reiki is a Scientifically proven form of healing, and is offered in most hospitals. However it does remain something that you specifically need to ask for.
How should I prepare for my first treatment?

If possible you will want to give yourself at least 30 minutes prior to the session to sit and reflect. Check in with how your body is feeling and take note of any emotions, thoughts, or physical sensations you are experiencing that feel off or that are affecting you negatively.

You also may want to set intentions for your session, and be aware of anything you want to share with your practitioner before you begin.

Absolutely make sure you've eaten but not a heavy meal as you will want all of your body's energy towards receiving your treatment rather than towards heavy digestion.

Make sure you are hydrated a few hours before the session this will help you to be comfortable and not distracted by hunger or thirst during your session.

Use the restroom before the session. If the position you are in for your session is uncomfortable in any way, communicate this to your practitioner, as they will also want to be sure you are as relaxed as possible especially since you will be laying down for the majority of your session, comfort is paramount if you want to be open to taking on and integrating the Reiki energy.

Be sure you are wearing loose and breathable clothes, either wear or bring socks since shoes are removed during the session and the feet can get cold.
What should I expect from my first session?
Everyone experiences, sees, feels Reiki differently, because everyone is a unique individual. You may experience the sensation as a tingling or static sensation. Such as when one of your limbs fall asleep. Another person may experience it similar to a heating pad that shifts as the practitioner moves their hands to various vital positions. A third person may experience Reiki as a calming sensation that ebbs & flows moving up, and down her body, like the waves of the Ocean. All of those are normal. There is no right or wrong ways to experience the healing powers of Reiki. Reiki will always aim for your greatest good, despite the reasons you may be seeing your local practitioner. Meaning you may go to see a healer because of persistent knee pain, but your mental health hasn't been so wonderful because of stress and/ or trauma. So the energy may decide that's where it's greatest good is going to be focused, and vice versa.
What should I do after my session?

Many of the benefits of Reiki can occur soon after the session ends. I recommend that my clients find somewhere quiet and relaxing to take at least 15-20 minutes after the session to meditate, lie down, go for a walk in nature, or even take a nap.

Try not to book or schedule anything else immediately after your session.

Drink 1-2 glasses of water after your session, it's important to hydrate after doing any type of energy work.

After your session you may find yourself needing to eat immediately, that is completely normal. Be sure you listen to your body, eating also helps ground the body and as a bonus, you may find that food flavors to be more intense and satiating after energy work.

Reiki is extremely gentle yet, since energy blockages are being cleared, some discomfort can arise. Contact your practitioner if anything feels physically or emotionally painful after your session.
